KUDOS for MEMBERS
 Judy Kirscht's short story, 'Marking the Day' is being published in the spring issue of Soundings, the journal of the Whidbey Island Writers Association. Judy also had her short story 'Hear the Wind Blow' accepted for publication in the December, 2009 issue of 'Storyteller's Magazine'. In addition, Judy received an honorable mention in the E. M Koeppel National Short Story Contest for her short story 'The Camera's Eye'.
Hema Vasavada recently had a humor piece published in Kharbar Magazine entitled:ABCDs, FOBs and Now IBCAs
Sis Woody has published one of her poems in A Celebration of Poets
Helen Gregory's juvenile fantasy titled Starwatchers: ‘The Journey to Crystallo, is available on her Website at PinPubStudio.com. Helen’s first Kindle book, ‘Tales for Tots and the folks who love them’ is available on line at Amazon’s Kindle Store.
Norma Johnson's children's novel 'Bats on the Bedstead' has been published on Kindle books.
Joe Vitovec recently won an honorable mention in the Writers’ Digest Short Story Contest.

EVENTS

January 26, 2012 – Evening meeting features poet/instructor, Jane Alynn. Jane will give a presentation entitled, ‘Facing The Blank Page’. See the home page for a link to register for this event.

February 9, 2012 – Afternoon Meeting. A short business meeting followed by a presentation by author/editor/teacher, Heidi Thomas. Heidi will discuss Creativity.

February 23, 2012 – Evening meeting with a presentation from author/historian, Janet Oakley. Janet’s program entitled, ‘Research, The Time Line Lady’ will deal with finding and using research.

March 8, 2012 – Afternoon meeting. Following a short business meeting author/instructor, Judith Kirscht will present a program on ‘Freedom and Form’.

March 22, 2012 – Evening meeting will be a work shop on ‘Character Development’ lead by author/editor/instructor, Heidi Thomas

March 31, 2012 – Half-Day Workshop – Priscilla Long author of ‘The Writer’s Portable Mentor’ will lead a program on ‘Structure in Fiction/Non-Fiction’. The event will take place at the Mount Vernon Senior Center from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Registration for Skagit Valley Writer League member is $15.00 and for non-members the fee is $20.00. A link for registration for this event will be posted on the home page soon.

Our goal for 2012 is to have more speakers and educational programs at upcoming meetings and workshops. Information will be posted as the events are scheduled.
